Austrac uses Palantir's Gotham and Foundry platforms. The agency has confirmed it, there is at least a $12 million contract, and Services Australia's own internal documents name Palantir as the software Austrac relies on to manage its financial data holdings. Austrac's NDIS Financial Crime Guide instructs banks to file suspicious matter reports tagged with NDIS keywords. Austrac's own privacy documentation confirms those reports carry the personal details of NDIS participants. Austrac sits on the Fraud Fusion Taskforce, the body driving the crackdown on NDIS spending that MWM has been reporting on for the past fortnight. A NSW bill introduced on 6 August 2026 would let police enforce an order to unlock your phone at an arrest, a roadside stop or other lawful detention, with no search warrant sitting underneath it. Refusing on the grounds that complying would incriminate you is not a reasonable excuse under the bill. The order can be made against someone police only believe has knowledge of an organised crime offence, not just a suspect. Nobody publishes how many phones get opened. The NSW Police annual report doesn't count them, the NSW Crime Commission says it does not publish the figure, and nothing in the bill requires the data to ever be deleted. Dr Mo Mustafa, a Palestinian-Australian ER doctor, spent months treating patients inside Gaza's hospitals while journalists were barred from entering. The Newcastle Hunter Jazz Club has cancelled its 37th annual jazz festival after new ATO superannuation guidance left it unable to guarantee compliance for 334 musicians across 52 bands in a matter of days. Club president Murray explains the compliance window, the legal risk of bands performing without super details on file, and why a volunteer-run club couldn't meet it. A freedom of information request obtained by Michael West Media found the ATO consulted 161 people and organisations on the new rules, and not one came from the music industry. Musicians have technically been classified as employees under superannuation law since 1992, but the guidance offers no clarity for performers over 67 without an active super fund.
