- Speaker #2
Hello everyone on Work in Progress. Today a special show with international students in culture. Today a very special subject on globalization, culture, the jobs of culture in the international. So we will switch to English with the whole team.
- Speaker #3
Hello everyone, thank you so much for hearing us. Good morning and bonjour. Right now we have two different students from, a few different students from different departments of University of Bourgogne Europe. We are practically talking about two departments, ICM which is Intercultural Management and PEACE which is Project and International and Cultural Management. We have students named Kelly, Peter, Shamir, Yuka, Sara and Rhythm. And it's me right now, Kanjan Gadhvi from India. I hope you will enjoy the show.
- Speaker #4
Good morning, bonjour tout le monde. My name is Kelly. I'm excited to be here today and present ICM along with my fellow colleagues. ICM, I'm sure you've heard it around. It stands for Intercultural Management. So we are representing countries across the globe, and we are all excited here to boost our resumes, learn all about as much interculturalism as we can. and speak different languages. We're learning French, we're learning English, we're learning Spanish, we're learning German, we're learning all different kinds of languages. And so we all hope to be intraculturalists at the end of the day. And if you're ever curious and want to speak other languages, please ask us. We speak many. Thank you all for listening and having us today. Peter, would you like to discuss the Masterpiece program?
- Speaker #5
Yes, of course. Bonjour, my name is Peter Alumona. I'm from the PEACE program, which is quite similar to the ICM. PEACE stands for Project in International and European Cultural Engineering. Annually, we admit about 12 to 15 students into the program. And currently in my class, we have a student from Nigeria, myself, we have India, Morocco, Tajikistan, And of course, we have... A student from Italy, Japan. Well, this is an interesting program because it messes you into culture of international students and also other countries, as well as European culture as well. For this program, we try to understand how things are done in other places and how we can marry both of them together to make sure that we have a more sustainable world. I hope you check out PIS on the internet on Université Bourgogne-Europe. Thank you.
- Speaker #2
Yes, thank you very much. And now let's talk with Shamir.
- Speaker #6
All right, good morning everybody. I'm Shamir, I'm from Jamaica. I am also a student, a part of the ICM program, which is Intercultural Management. Really, from this master's, after two years, I want to work with the Migration Arm of the United Nations, which is called IOM, which is the International Organization for Migration. And I actually want to be a mobility consultant with them and gain some experience with them, helping other people in different areas, different migrants like myself, and also start my own consultancy business. All right. That's my little project for the time being.
- Speaker #2
It's so great. Thank you very much, Amir. And Yuka? Oui.
- Speaker #7
Merci, Shamil. So, hello, everyone. I'm Yuka, and I'm from Japan. I'm also a student from ICM course and studying intercultural communication and I'm also working hard to improve my communication skills in English and French as well. I love travel and food. I bought a camper van five years ago and I've traveled all over Japan. I discovered many beautiful sceneries and local foods that even I as a Japanese person didn't know existed. So my biggest dream is to become a tour guide and introduce Japan to people from all over the world using my camper van. I will focus on places that we can only visit by car, not with public transportation. So if we have a chance to come to Japan, I would be happy to help you. Thank you.
- Speaker #2
Thank you very much, Yuka. It's so great. Sarah? You want to present something?
- Speaker #8
Yes, of course. So thank you again, Yuko, fellow Asians. So I am Sarah. I'm from Singapore. And you've heard just now from our classmates that we are interested in working with UN. We are also interested in working for the leisure and travel sector. And I think what is good about ICM is that we also prepare ourselves for corporate life. So we also look at European-Asian partnerships, European-African partnerships. So just putting that link and bridge to other parts of the world and looking at perspectives that can boost not only our own, enrich our own lives, but also to boost the economic situations of different regions and for the power of globalization to reach all corners of the globe. And so coming from Singapore, this busy metropolis, this. where we have all sorts of races, cultures and heritage. I hope that with this experience, we all get to learn from each other and enrich the world beyond.
- Speaker #2
Thank you. It's so great. Maybe Rhythm?
- Speaker #9
Bonjour. Good morning. Hi, everyone. I am Rhythm. I'm from India. India, the land where we believe a cup of chai can fix almost any problem. So I grew up surrounded by diversity. Every few kilometers, the language, the food, even the festivals change. So for me, culture has always felt like a living, breathing adventure. Since moving to France, I've learned that culture is not only about what we celebrate or eat, it's more about how we connect and communicate. Sometimes that means learning to say cross or the French way after five tries. My aspiration is to work in international communications, creating understanding between people, communities and countries. I want to help make dialogue more human, whether it's diplomacy, education or global projects, but at the same time earning handsome amount. Because I believe real development starts when we listen across accents, borders and beliefs and we still can find common ground, maybe over a shared meal. Merci beaucoup for listening. Thank you.
- Speaker #2
merci thank you so much rhythm well i think it's quite great maybe you you want to talk more about uh we've still got a little time but i think it's really great diversity from your all um well uh peter maybe you you want also to present your personal project or What do you plan to do after your master?
- Speaker #5
Thank you very much for the question. Before now, I used to work as a project management practitioner in Nigeria and across West Africa. But it's very interesting to be on this program now, and I'm beginning to see a perspective on how I can work in other regions and sectors. And so now I'm looking at the European Union headquarters in Belgium, how I can work in the cultural sector and also work with youths. to help them understand the importance of cultural adaptation and how to make the world a more sustainable place. So yeah, I'm looking towards, you know, returning my stance on project management and also expanding to monitoring and evaluation.
- Speaker #2
Thank you. Thank you very much. It's so great. Maybe we can, you want to talk? Yeah.
- Speaker #4
Hello, everyone. It's Kelly again. on here. I just wanted to talk a little bit about my future projects. I am from the USA, from California, and I have been living in France for three years in Dijon now. And so I am excited to start a master's program where I can start using my language skills as well as my communication skills. I, like Shamir, hope to potentially open my own consultancy firm one day. I love the idea of blending HR with interculturalism. And so I hope to take a more sensible approach to workplace conflicts when they are in international companies. I am so happy to be out of the teaching realm in the strict sense of English and French and take it to a new level with conferences and absorb all I can this year. And I'm excited to be surrounded by an amazing group of individuals from all over the world who are teaching me things. new things every single day. And I'm excited to see what we achieve this year. And Sarah's going to touch on one more thing for us.
- Speaker #8
Yeah. And Kelly, I think just in general, you've brought so much perspective to our program. And I think overall, in terms of the modules that we've been taking, you mentioned earlier about negotiation and workplace conflict. Some of the modules that we are taking in class include strategy, international marketing, diversity and management. And I think it just alludes more into our knowledge and what we can contribute to what we will do after the program. And not only that, just to shout out our current class, Culture Development and Globalization, I would like to really emphasize on the fact that everybody's experiences has improved our social understanding of what... Our own perspectives are on top of what life in France has. And we all have to thank our professor, Franck Dubois, to contribute to this knowledge, information sharing.
- Speaker #2
Thank you so much. But you are the people. Well, I mean, it's really great. Thank you, Sarah. Thank you, Yuka. Thank you, Shamir, Peter, Kelly. Rhythm, you're so great. Let's have a small break. Musical with Ariel singing Mainstream.
- Speaker #10
You want to listen to some of the music, but you hear more about what people think. It's so cool if you listen to tunes that no one else can hear. Everybody talking about the same things in the same space. Sean, I'm so proud of what I do now. I always tell him to try to be a man. But when he tries to be a man, he won't be a man. I always tell him to try to be a man. But when he tries to be a man, he won't be a man. I'm going to say lips this way. The artist you can't ignore And you know I am not the one you can ignore You won't tell and I'll listen to it Before I'm completely in your heart Oh, but still, since we meet now that I'm over it I turn the sound of this world over Shut out the music, me too, the group Oh no, babe Let's show. So. I always.
- Speaker #2
Diana, welcome! Can you present yourself?
- Speaker #0
Yeah, sure. Hi everyone, I'm Diana and I'm from Italy. I'm an Erasmus student here at Université Bourgogne Europe, currently enrolled in the PEACE Master's program, Master's degree. I'm here as an exchange studying arts management, which is something that I also study in Italy. And I have some ambition. My dream is to work in exhibitions, art exhibition and also arts management, maybe within the context of Venice Biennial, which is an important international contemporary art exhibition in Venice, held in Venice every two years. And working as a curator and developing some skills in the arts management field, it's surely the thing that I am here trying to reach and also in Italy. So thanks for having me.
- Speaker #2
Thank you. Thank you very much. Thank you, Diana. Catalina, welcome to the team.
- Speaker #0
Thank you. Do you hear me?
- Speaker #2
No, we're great.
- Speaker #11
Thank you. I'm Caterina. I'm an exchange student of Diana. We study in the same university in Venice. My dream is the same as Diana's one. So to become a curator, to create spaces where art can become a language of global connection. I think it's the Venice Biennale, as Diana said. represents an important example of how different cultures can meet through dialogue and not dominations. My goal and ambition is to create exhibitions where global issues can be met, such as migration, identity, sustainability. And I think culture is not just communication, but
- Speaker #2
it's the communication is what also make globalization meaningful in our uh in our world so um thank you also for understand for listening to me thank you to you catalina it's great uh we will talk again about this uh asha welcome
- Speaker #12
thank you i'm asha from hong kong and i'm studying in the icm program so instead of talking about my future plans i would like to to talk about my previous experience. being a chanvier au pair so for people who don't know about this program basically you just take care of children and do babysitting but in my case it was so traumatizing because i didn't take care of children what i did was cutting woods and then using uh cutting woods with uh how do you say uh electronics um saw and then it was my first time ever doing this and then also I was living with the old man alone in the very messy house in a... countryside. So that's why it was really traumatizing to me. And then after that, I also experienced building scaffolding without any safety measures in my life for the first time. And then I just escaped after staying there for seven weeks. And then I lied to him. And then now I'm here because I need to find something to do in France.
- Speaker #2
Great. But it was cutting woods in France?
- Speaker #12
Yeah, in France, in Pouvet.
- Speaker #2
Okay. Okay, great. oh thank you very much sasha and now now now you asked you more in the genfi about wooding pair uh do you like being in dijon yeah it's great for you yeah it's so much better than bouvet okay yeah bove is great but it's something different uh thank you very much uh cat
- Speaker #13
everyone so i'm cat i'm from vietnam and i would like to talk about my favorite food ever which is sushi It's a dish that seems very universal, like everyone knows it. So back into my country, Vietnam, sushi was colorful. It was like California style with spice sauces, creamy toppings, and even mango cheese and stuff like that. When I come to Japan, where the sushi actually grows, like is formed, it is more quiet and more precise. Like everything is like honors the essentials quality. like from the rice, the freshness of the fish and the brush of soy sauce, just enough wasabi like everything is very simple and intentional and this I think is the most respectful way to taste the kind of ocean and here in France I feel like sushi is like everyone loves it but it's often taken away, delivered by bike, enjoying the park or like at home. I think it becomes like part of the everyday life and this is like the same dish but three different identities. I think that it represents each one of us in different places of our lives and yeah like sushi may have been born in like Southeast Asia like it's raised in Japan and today is like naturalized and popularized everywhere like like each one of us like in here yes yeah thank you so much uh Arisa uh yeah
- Speaker #14
welcome hello everyone I'm Arisa I'm from Japan I'm an exten student studying in France. At my Japanese university, I majored in literature, and here in France, I'm focusing on French culture, such as cultural policy and public art. I want to pursue a career in the future that involves expression. I have studied how to express ideas not only through books in my literature program, but also by analyzing the method. application of expression in various artworks and cultural artifacts. Revealing this diverse background, I hope to find a job in areas such as television program production.
- Speaker #2
Thank you. Thank you so much. Great. Nagasura. Hi.
- Speaker #15
Hi. I'm Nao Nagasuna. I'm from Japan and I'm an exchange student currently studying in France. I'll use my future plan. In my future, I'd like to work in a field related to urban landscape learning. Since I've come all the way to France to study, I want to take this opportunity to learn how French cities approach urban design and landscape preservation. and explore whether those ideas could be applied in Japan. I'm especially interested in how cities maintain their visual and cultural identity over time. My plans aren't really set yet, but I'm also curious about careers that involve sharing French culture with Japan. Thank you for listening.
- Speaker #2
Thank you. Thank you so much. So great. We've got also Lucia. Lucia, sorry. Welcome.
- Speaker #16
Hello. Hello, everyone. My name is Lucia. I am from the beautiful Caribbean island, the Dominican Republic. Right now, I'm so cold. I miss my weather. I need coffee. So, but I'm going to try to do this very energetic. I am currently studying my master in intercultural management. After I finish my master, I want to continue my studies with a PhD. I want to deepen my research skills. I would also like to keep working in international project management and connecting. I would love to do jobs related to connecting people from different cultures and be innovative.
- Speaker #2
collaborate with people from all over around the world thank you so much it's so great thank you everyone let's have a small break with dominica also mainstream I'm
- Speaker #17
sorry. We'll be on the ground, we'll be on the ground, Mainstream. Mainstream. We'll all win the tournament. We'll disappear into the darkness. Mainstream. The art is a dream. Come on, wake up. The sun rises in the morning The current passes by, but it's still... The guys will all die, the people Then they will disappear in time Main Street Not a star in the early street On the red and white Saturday Imagine this building is destroyed Voilà, les fleurs des filles, les regards, les cibles, d'après-luette, par pire tuyau, le monde est une silhouette. The world is a silhouette, Slipped in the pipes. We will all win the power, Just by being in it. We will all win the power. We just want to take it all mainstream. Nice.
- Speaker #2
And we are back to work in progress with all the team right now.
- Speaker #14
See? Look at you.
- Speaker #2
So welcome everybody back to Work in Progress. Let's start exchanging with Danae. Welcome! Hello! Hello!
- Speaker #18
Hello, so I'm Danae, I'm from Greece and I would like to briefly talk about a wonderful exhibition I went to last week during the fall break in the Provence area. More specifically, in the wonderful, very picturesque village called Les Baux de Provence. Yes, and the exhibition was basically about Jean Cocteau and its work. And it was hosted by the museum, by the Musée Yves Le Breillet. And it was a temporary exhibition. And, well, the sad thing is that it actually ends today. So today is the 10th of November and it's the last day of the exhibition. It lasted for five months and I was lucky enough to plan a visit. Well, the exhibition was about all of his works and it was divided in three parts, three categories. His cinematic works, his paintings, his theatre work and some of the costumes that appeared. in his theatre works and his cinematic works. And I really loved every part of it. It really was really, really incredible to be able to see some of the costumes and props and works that I've been obsessing about because he's one of my favourite artists from France and in general.
- Speaker #0
Well, yeah, some of his posters were there as well. And it was an amazing experience to be able to be there. And yeah, that's it.
- Speaker #1
And he changed from paint and... Yes,
- Speaker #0
yes, everything. He had everything. And I would love to go to another museum that hosts many of his works in Montauk. okay near nice uh but it's it's a bit far away from here so yes we'll have to plan this for another time yeah so thank you very much uh kanjan welcome
- Speaker #2
we thank you so much for having me here guys so my name is kanjan gadhvi i'm coming from india and i don't have anything particular to say today on this radio show but usually i'm going to talk about my experience in dijon Because it's my first time in Europe, I took a flight ticket to come to here. I'm enrolled in a program of intercultural management and international management in this program called PEACE. And I'm joined by some of my friends here. My experience so far, it's great. I'm able to meet different people here who are coming from different parts of the world. You can talk about art, culture, and etc, etc. And it's really fun. The particular thing which I love about Dijon so far is all the museums are free.
- Speaker #1
Yeah.
- Speaker #2
So no matter...
- Speaker #1
Also in Washington, D.C., in the U.S., in a lot of big cities, they are free.
- Speaker #2
If you are watching museum, Tijoux is the best. It's like you can go to different museums and everybody will be so excited about, you know, showing you around and what's the historical part of it. So I'm really enjoying my life here. I must recommend people to come to Tijoux.
- Speaker #1
Okay. Yeah. Sarah, you had?
- Speaker #3
Yeah, I think just in general, my first time in France as well. I really think that the emphasis on culture and the fact that art and music and creativity is so accessible, it just is so different from a different part of the world. You know, like in France, you have this strong legacy and pride in what art can do. And I think in general, just to be immersed in this culture of the fact that if you're free, you have nothing to do that day, especially since the exhibit ends today. yeah I would be happy to just pop by a museum, check out an exhibit, and just be exposed to creativity and masterpieces and just in general sharing that experience with people who have different backgrounds. You know, in France, you have a very strong pride and passion in what you create. And I think when you share it with people all over the world, you inside a sense of um inspiration and uh also you you invite other people to bring their voices into the discussion which i really enjoy and so i think alongside kanjan we're just so happy to be
- Speaker #2
exposed to this thank you so much thank you uh let's have a a you want yeah so uh that's what we can agree upon and even the life life in our university that's pretty much exciting You don't have to plan anything up. Like my friends who are here inside the radio will agree to that fact. You don't have to plan anything. You just open the WhatsApp group and you always have a cultural activity to go in. And people will, you know, it's very easy. It's fast forward life, but it's not that fast forward. So you can have your own time. You can just have a coffee outside of the university campus. If you are a bookworm like me, so you can go to the library, which is beautiful by so far. So, yeah, it's interesting.
- Speaker #1
It's great. Thank you so much. Let's have a small break with Wax and Ben Mazoué as
- Speaker #4
Mr Jones. Stout at this yellow-haired girl, Mr. Jones starts up a conversation With this black hair, flamenco dance, you know she dances while his father plays She's so beautiful, oh we all want something beautiful I wish I was beautiful So come dance down to the morning Sha la Sha la la la la. What up, Maria? Show me some of the Spanish dances and ask me about Mr. Jones. Believe in me. Help me believe in everything, because I... Wanna be someone you'll believe So come on, I'll leave anything in you Mr. Jones and me Tell each other fairytales And we stare at the beautiful one She's looking at you with nothing She's looking at me standing in the bright light Coming through the stereo
- Speaker #5
And we're all in everybody knows If we'd never be lonely, well, I'm gonna paint my picture. Paint myself in blue, red, black, gray. All of the beautiful colors, very, very meaningful. Yeah, but you know gray is my favorite color. I felt so symbolic yesterday. If I knew, I could cast. I would buy myself a great guitar and play Mr. Tore. Send me looking to the future. Yeah, we stare out beautiful women. She's looking at you out of grace. She's looking at me standing in the spotlight. I'd buy myself a great power. Everybody knows me. You can never be lonely. I could never be lonely. Cause I'm never gonna be lonely.
- Speaker #4
Wanna be a lion. And everybody wanna pass the scale. And I wanna be big, big stars. But we got different reasons. Believe in me. Don't believe in anything later. I wanna be someone who believes in all these things. Mr. Joe and me. It's gonna be through the daddy of the year. We scare out the beautiful woman. She's hurting me.
- Speaker #5

- Speaker #1
And welcome back to Work in Progress. And now our last moment together with the agenda. And welcome back to Peter. And Sarah, so you want to talk about some agenda? Yeah. Cultural agenda. Sounds good. Yeah.
- Speaker #3
So it's a really exciting period for us now that we're entering, we're leaving the season of autumn and we're going into winter. So Peter, please let us know what's exciting coming up.
- Speaker #6
Thank you, Sarah. I couldn't agree more. It is an exciting period for us. and first on the list we have opening of the new Cartier Foundation. Did you hear that? Opening of the new Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art. New exhibition area around Palais Real in Paris. I bet it's a place to go. Sarah, what do you have next?
- Speaker #3
Yes, I think for those of you who don't know the Cartier Foundation, they have an interesting exhibit coming up and it's in Paris. So for those of you who want to make the trip down, go for it. The new Cartier Foundation. for contemporary art and on my end i'd like to introduce the exhibition by Jean Domp, a Burgundian sculptor. His works are going to be displayed at the Musée des Fine Arts in Dijon. So this goes on from this week all the way till March 2026. So if you have nothing to do over winter, go check that out at the Museum of Fine Arts.
- Speaker #1
It's open even on Sunday and it's free.
- Speaker #3
You have to go down there. There's no excuse now.
- Speaker #6
Exactly. Next on the list is Christmas Market in the east of French cities.
- Speaker #3
Who could ever, like, everybody needs to know about the Christmas Market.
- Speaker #6
Exactly. We have some, you know, interesting cities here and locations. We have Colmar, Moulouse, Montbéliade, Strasbourg and...
- Speaker #3
Hagenau. Yeah, exactly. The Alsace region is very well known for their amazing Christmas Market. And for those of you who do not come from a country where there is snow, You definitely have to check the Christmas markets out. And so on top of that, we are entering the period of the UN project calls. So essentially those of freelancers, creatives who have a body of works to showcase at the UNESCO chair, this is the period for you to submit your projects. And so it goes on all throughout of December.
- Speaker #6
Yeah, and it's very interesting to note that some places in Dijon have been listed by UNESCO as one of the UNESCO World Sites Heritage and also for gastronomy as well. So it's very interesting. Yeah,
- Speaker #3
exactly. Really, really something to check out. And also just upcoming on the 2nd of December, we have World Future Day. So this day is important because it celebrates the anticipation in an area of volatility. in the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. So do check that out. Upcoming 2nd December
